Rega's Brio–R updates an venerable icon by giving it a much larger toroidal transformer, generous power supply components and a beefed-up output stage. Film capacitors have been placed in the signal path and at all critical positions within the phono amplifier which yields increased transparency. A specially designed remote control will not compromise performance as it has its own dedicated power supply apart from the audio circuit.
Rega wanted to keep it simple and elegant. There are 4 line level inputs and a moving-magnet phono input. There is no headphone jack as Rega chose to keep things simple in the pursuit of better sound. The chassis is midi-sized, perfect for economizing space. It’s 50W into 8-ohms and 73W into 4-ohms is solid power and will drive most speakers outside of the very low efficiency area. Call us if you need assistance in this area.
The sound is transparent, musical, and dynamic. You’ll be giddy at how good it sounds. In fact, the highly-respected “What Hi-Fi” magazine bestowed 5-stars, its highest rating, upon the Brio-R citing its ‘agile, rhythmic and detailed sound” and concluding that the Brio-R is “a musically engrossing amplifier that doesn’t cost silly money”.
Rega planar turntables have been going through significant upgrades over the last few years so the phono stage in the new Rega Brio-R has been substantially upgraded as well to keep up with these developments. Among the various improvements are increased input sensitivity as well as an improvement in the phono equalization curve below 100Hz. The results are greater immediacy, more dynamics, and greater definition in the mid-to-low bass.
The Rega Brio-R is available in silver or black and comes with Rega’s 3-year parts and labor warranty.
